BACFLY : Our expertise
Exploration and innovation around the baculovirus
The BACFLY platform focuses its activities on the exploration of the replication mechanisms of the baculovirus AcMNPV and their exploitation to develop advanced technologies dedicated to the production of complex recombinant proteins. This work notably allows the expression of mono- and bi-specific antibodies, viral-like particles (VLPs) and multiprotein complexes with precise post-translational modifications, such as human complex N-glycosylations.
A key player in immunotherapy
As a member of LabEx MAbImprove, the platform actively collaborates on research and innovation projects in immunotherapy, strengthening its role in the development of high-level biotechnology solutions.
Mastery of cell culture and production in serum-free medium
BACFLY also stands out for its expertise in cell culture in a serum-free medium, with adapted lines and optimized production processes under controlled conditions. The proteins produced are purified with state-of-the-art equipment and validated by rigorous analytical techniques, guaranteeing their quality for various therapeutic and biotechnological applications.
BACFLY : PTM / Vaccines group
The main objective of BACFLY is to study specific characteristics of the replication of the AcMNPV baculovirus, a virus of the Autographa californica butterfly, and to leverage the findings to develop original technologies for the production of complex recombinant proteins (monoclonal and bispecific antibodies, Virus-Like Particles (VLPs), multiprotein complexes, etc.).
Optimizing the baculovirus/insect cell expression system enables us to obtain recombinant proteins with Post-Translational Modifications (PTMs) such as complex human N-glycosylations.

BACFLY : Antibody Group
Currently, our ‘Baculovirus and Therapy’ team is part of the LabEx MAbImprove (ANR-10-LABX-53-01) excellence laboratory, which brings together several university laboratories, doctors, and researchers for the discovery and optimization of therapeutic antibodies.
In this context, several service and collaboration projects are underway.
